We are really looking forward to this talk by Mark Mullin tonight at VTdotNET!

We also have some great WCF books to give away: Learning WCF by Michele Leroux Bustamante (thanks OReilly and INETA) and Pro WCF: Practical Microsoft SOA Implementation from APress.

Thanks to Infragistics, we will be raffling off two licenses to NetAdvantage for .NET. One of the raffles will actually be a fund-raising raffle.

We also have shirts and swag courtesy of CodeZone and piles of CoDe Magazine and aspnetPRO to give away.

And thanks to Verio's sponsorship of INETA, I am able to offer Verio's free webhosting to Vermont .NET members who show up at the meeting tonight.

Since it's such a nice day (and I have just absolutely NO work to do ;-)), and Mark is being so generous with his time (driving up from New Hampshire) and cash (there's gas $ and hotel involved), I am going to take him on a 1.5 hour cruise on Lake Champlain aboard the Spirit of the Ethan Allen this afternoon. Hey, running a user group is HARD work, y'know?

From the VTRails user group:

Meeting - July 25th at 6:00pm - Pub and Brewery in Burlington Downtown

We picked Pub and Brewery for the meeting, for it’s friendly atmosphere, location and good tasting beer. The plan is to meet everybody in person and shake hands and see what topics are attracting most of the interest.

We are going to raffle Rails Cookbook we received from O’Reilly.

See everybody there!

VTSQL is having their June meeting tomorrow, June 20th.

Our pal, Jean-Rene Roy is coming down from Montreal to do a presentation on SQL Server Service Broker. This is one of those topics I found myself having to learn so that I could understand how Query Notification works in ADO.NET 2.0. But there's a whole lot more to leverage from it besides what I'm getting from ADO.NET.

More meeting info here.

Next Meeting

Introduction to Analysis Services 2005

Our next user group meeting will be Wednesday, September 27 2006  -   6pm to 8pm at Competitive computing.

Session Description
Analyzing data requires different techniques to fit different scenarios. OLAP cubes provide structured hierarchical views of data to aid drill-down analysis, while Data Mining attempts to predict structural relationships within the data. This session will provide an overview of these modern analysis methods, with examples of the applications of both techniques. Highlights of the programmability interface such, as MDX will also be covered.

Speaker
Tamer Farag joined Microsoft Egypt in August 2000 as a SQL Server Technical Specialist. He performed multiple SQL Server responsibilities in Egypt, including pre-sales, marketing, support, and training. He’s also been responsible for recruiting and supporting local SQL Server 2000 partners to develop large-scale solutions. In July 2002, he was promoted to a Senior TS position. Due to his focus on BI, he’s been identified as an expert in the Middle East region and has gotten involved in large BI projects outside of Egypt. Starting from October 2004 Tamer moved to Microsoft Canada to work as a Partner Technical Specialist focusing on SQL Server. Some of his proudest accomplishments include helping to grow SQL Server revenue by 300% in Egypt and delivering the general session in the Middle-east Developers’ Conference (MDC 2004).

In addition to INETA flying Paul here, they pay for the pizza & soda at the meeting, which is always appreciated!

AND, that's not all folks! :-)  INETA sent out their SWAG mailing earlier ths summer and I'm still pulling treats out of it. This month I will be raffling off

If you plan on attending, go to the site and rsvp (this way we know how much pizza and soda to bring).

There are lots of new discounts on the member page of the website.

If you are a user group leader in New England or a user group leader going to TechEd, you won't want to miss the User Group Leadership meeting on June 11th.

The meeting will be in Microsoft's Waltham Office, just north of Boston. If you need to get from Boston to Waltham, let INETA know!

You’re invited to join us at the at the Northeast Regional User Group Leadership Summit on Sunday 6/11/2006 at the Microsoft Waltham, MA office.

User Group Leaders today face many challenges such as promoting your group, financing, engaging existing members, recruiting speakers, finding new sources of content, leveraging local Microsoft relationships; etc. The New England INETA user groups along with INETA, in hopes of building a more close knit community, invites you all to join us on Sunday June 11th, prior to the start of TechEd 2006 in Boston.

The agenda for the summit will includes peer to peer sessions to address some of the key concerns and issues related to running a user group.  As a follow-up to last year’s hugely successful INETA User Group Leadership Summit, the New England INETA User Groups will host this event in the hope of that we can all learn from one another to improve the user group experience for our attendees as well as ourselves.  The sessions are open to all leaders, both local and afar.

If you are currently involved with a user group, in a leadership role, want to get involved, or even looking to start one then you will get powerful direction in the course of the sessions. If you read this far, you know this is for you.
