At the closing session of DevConnections, an attendee asked a marvelous question. He asked that each member of the panel tell what one feature of .NET 2.0 they think is the killer feature that will really drive the platform forward. However, I think we speakers were at an unfair advantage! Having just wrapped our heads totally around particular topics for our sessions, in my opinion, many of us (including myself) answered the question of what our favorite feature was - which may not necessarily “move the platform forward”. When it was
Markus Egger's turn (and he was the last to answer as I recall) he said simply “Generics”. And I really did the ol' “I could've had a V-8” head slap on that. I had answered with my favorite ADO.NET feature - Query Notification - which I had just done an entire session on the day before. That does do applications a miraculous service, but does not “drive the platform forward” in the way that Generics does. Can I have a do-over?
