I downloaded the latest bits of Vista (5270) from MSDN last week but am not sure if I want to bother installing them. At first, I was watching what other people's experiences were and for the most part, there seems to be a lot of happy campers out there. But my target machine for Vista is a Toshiba Tecra M4 (tablet pc). There are a lot of wonderful new tablet features in Vista, but the only evidence I can find on the web so far of someone installing 5270 bits on that machine is Robert McLaws. Though he is extremely positive about this build, he does say:
But alas, none of the other Tablet-related drivers work. It's not that Windows Vista crashes, it's just that I get a bunch of errors like "Can't get ACPI namespace" and that kind of crap.
So, even though I would love to play with this stuff, I have plenty of other work that I don't need to be distracted from and oh, yeah, some last minute (grocery! the other stuff is all done :-)) shopping to do and a few other things going on this weekend. :-)
Of course, to top it off, I don't have a dvd writer and everything I have read says that you really need to burn the ISO onto a DVD for the install. Others have tried to use ISO software but it creates a lot of problems. I was hoping that the dvd would be in the latest MSDN shipment, but alas, 'tis not.
