A blog for DevSource.com.

This blog was originally part of the blogs.ziffdavis.com site from May 2005 through June 2007 when the blog was moved to the Movable Type blog engine and hosted at blog.devsource.com/devlife.
The original blog was eventually shut down and I was given the posts so that I could host them on my own site.

10 Significant Events for the [well, this] .NET developer in 2005

I decided to list what I thought were the most significant things that happened in 2005 for .NET. This is more of an mental exercise for me as I gave myself only 5 minutes to come up with this list and have not looked at anybody else's lists in order not to be swayed.
  1. Release of VS2005/SQL Server 2005 (well, of course!!)
  2. Shift from pet-names (Indigo/Avalon/Longhorn) to official names (WCF/WPF/Vista)
  3. Redefinition of Visual Studio SKUs
  4. Comprehensible message of what is Indigo/WCF in relation to existing distributed technologies
  5. The new MSDN
  6. Virtual Earth
  7. Women added to the ranks of Developer Evangelist (for the developer/user group community) and MSDN Developer Community Champion.
  8. Bill & Melinda Gates named Time People of the Year
  9. Numerous significant hirings by Microsoft from the developer community.
  10. Repackaging of Hailstorm

Technically speaking, the item that most caught me by surprise was LINQ.
