Re-Booting the Airplane

Yesterday I had to take a 6am flight to NYC and even managed to get out of bed and to the airport on time. After boarding the plane, we sat on the runway for a while. Finally the pilot came on the speaker to explain that said they were having a problem with the computer that controls something with respect to flying the airplane. Naturally this put fears of Alan Cooper's first paragraph of  the Inmates are Running the Asylum  - which tells of a devastating result of a poorly designed UI for airplane navigation software. Naturally I was all for my airplane's software to work correctly.

The solution recommended by the Jet Blue's HQ, the pilot told us, was to take the plane back to the gate, shut the plane down completely and then turn it back on again. This is what they did and it did the trick. I couldn't help laughing at the translation of this - reboot the plane - and was happy they hadn't suggested reinstalling the O/S!
