A blog for DevSource.com.

This blog was originally part of the blogs.ziffdavis.com site from May 2005 through June 2007 when the blog was moved to the Movable Type blog engine and hosted at blog.devsource.com/devlife.
The original blog was eventually shut down and I was given the posts so that I could host them on my own site.

What rates as "high tech" these days, anyway?

My husband and I were in the local small-town hardware store this morning. Rich was in the aisle with all the bins of nuts, bolts and screws looking for something in particular. An employee had a PDA in his hand with a barcode reader, pointed it at the near empty bin of the thing Rich was looking for and then told him, “oh, those will be in on Wednesday”.

Isn't this what we have always imagined? The simplicity and huge value of technology like this even used in the little local hardware store (finally). I think that when it has become this pervasive, we have really reached a milestone.

So what's next? I think for the moment, the goal is SHINY.
