On the Farm
Why "The Data Farm"??
I
get asked this a lot. So here is the real answer. In 1991, I moved out of NYC
to the beautiful Hudson Valley. One of my software clients in Manhattan was a
large direct mailer. They were moving from main frames to p.c.'s and I was
writing their p.c. based applications. I learned their business so well that
they started subbing out some of their list maintenance work to me and I needed
a business name.
Since I was living in a caretaker's
cottage on a horse farm and surrounded by rolling fields with cows on them, The
Data Farm seemed a natural. In those days, having a name without the word
"tech" in it was a pretty wierd thing to do. Then years later, web data farms
came along and I felt lucky to have such a cool name!
Because people are always forgetting the
"The", emails frequently went to me at datafarm.com and I became friends with
the owner of that domain since he was always forwarding my emails to me. My
friend from Slovakia will be happy to explain why articles such as "the" and
"a" are completely waste of space in the english language anyway!
